Sony Introduction

Sony was founded in 1946 as the Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunication Engineering Company) and the first product the company launched was an automatic rice cooker. In order to reach a global client base, the name Sony was thought up, combining the Latin word for sound (“Sonus”) and the English term “sonny-boy”.

Sony UK began in 1968 when Sony became the first major Japanese business to open a factory in the UK.
