Toshiba Launches Second Gen HD/DVD Players

Toshiba has announced that it is to introduce a range of second generation High Definition DVD players into the market, on the back of the success of the HD-A2 DVD player.

High Definition DVD Players are designed to give both a high-class performance and an unrivalled picture quality output and, after launching a trial HD-DVD with great success, Toshiba has decided to expand its range with two more models.

Jodi Sally, Vice President of Marketing for Toshiba America Consumer Products Digital A/V Group said "Our second generation HD-A2 is selling through very well indicating a stronger market demand than before, and now with a new line-up of second generation players, we're proving that Toshiba is the consumer's choice for next generation HD DVD."

Toshiba’s range of HD DVD players is currently available in the USA and includes the HD-A2 and the HD-XA2, with the HD-A20 due to be launched in Spring 2007.

All of these models have 720p and 1020i output and are backwards compatible, meaning that you can also play standard DVDs on them.

Toshiba's HD DVD players output through the HDMI interface in 720p or 1080i for the HD-A2, and 720p, 1080i or 1080p for the HD-A20 and HD-XA2. This means that you will be able to match the resolution of the DVD player with your HDTV display.

The HD-A20 and the high end HD-XA2 HD DVD player are designed to output at 1920 x 1080p, currently the highest HD signal available via HDMI.

The HD-XA2 has a ‘Deep Colour’ output and a 297MHz / 12 bit Video DAC with high-quality and 4x oversampling. This will give you an increased bandwidth for true playback of an HD picture to a video source.

Toshiba's HD DVD players support a variety of HD audio options including both lossy and lossless formats from Dolby Labs, and DTS® including Dolby® Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD audio output.

The HD-AX2 is a sleek and eye-catching machine with black high gloss finish, and as with all Toshiba products, is stylish and cutting edge.
